The Tedious But Rewarding Process of Writing a Senior Thesis/Book

By Andreas Fanos on August 14, 2018

Senior year can be one of the most fun years in college, although, equally one of the most stressful. Senior year students can also see the end of the road and it can be exhilarating and sad at the same time. It can be more difficult with senioritis like what happened in high school — something everyone can remember. Senior year of college is a year with a lot of work and where many colleges make students complete a senior thesis, which is a culmination of a grandiose project. As if internships, homework, staying in shape, and studying wasn’t enough.  A senior thesis is something that you have worked on for a very long time during school where all the other work can pile up.

For certain majors, there could be no senior thesis, but for some like writing, film, journalism, animation, communications, art, and others there is. And I will vouch on it that senior thesis was one of the most difficult projects/work I had to do while in college, especially for writing part of a book. I faced so much resistance during the school year writing, even on making the deadlines, and staying on track. A lot of long lonely nights were spent with a computer in the middle of the desk with green tea next to it, followed by a head swirling with words I couldn’t find or think of. A note of upcoming graduation ceremonies and a letter of not messing up with the number of credits to get the degree was there too with the final classes I had to take and would for my undergraduate education.

A lot of self-doubts and wanting it to be perfect hit me a lot during the process. Giving up was also an option I had. Taking out and fixing information and fixing a lot of grammar would take hours upon hours. A lot of nights were sacrificed working on the senior thesis instead of going out and having fun or hanging out with friends. But I’m proud of that and that I got a good grade on my senior thesis. And now almost ready to show it to the world, something that I have worked on for about a year. Handing in my senior thesis at the end of the semester was one of the most gratifying with all the work I put into it.

Remember to stay on deadlines with the thesis for due dates and do the research more importantly. And try not to do the work last minute because that can backfire as well. And one of the most important is knowing that you got it and do not give up. Senior thesis can seem insurmountable, but it’s only a part of the process. Writing a book specifically really takes a lot of time, dedication, and setbacks, but that is what makes it so special and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

I will finally be giving a free snippet of my book soon on my website and publishing part of the book – about 80 pages or more on Amazon. After facing a lot of resistance and pushing the book off, I finally have created something, a manuscript with my own fingers and two hands. The book is mine, like a child, its mine. Be sure to look out for my novel on Amazon called “Out of Place, Lost in Time,” a memoir about my struggles of turning from boy to man, stories from the heart that will ripple through the soul. Reading the book, you will get to know a lot about me as a person and more about my experiences in college. Time is a concept used in the book because of the irony that it can never be given back or stopped.

Despite many thinking college is not necessary, it really makes an impact on someone’s life and gets them on track. Being educated is never a fault; as knowledge is power. Check out a free snippet of my book on my website which will be available soon and look out for the book on Amazon in the next couple of weeks.
